1. Our approach

Catawba Yacht Club Rowing ("we," "us") is a volunteer-run rowing program. We collect as little personal information as we can, use it only to run the program and communicate with people who ask to hear from us, and we do not sell it. This policy explains what we collect through this website and related program communications, and the choices you have.

2. Information you give us

• Contact and interest details — your name, email address, and any message you send when you email us, ask about Learn to Row, or join an interest list.
• Account information — if you sign in to a member or administrative area, your email address and authentication details.
• Program information — rowing experience, emergency contact, and waiver or membership details you provide when you register to participate. These are collected through club and USRowing processes rather than on this site.
• Content you submit — news copy, photos, or results you send us for publication.

3. Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting platform records basic technical data when you visit — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page, and timestamps — to keep the site running, secure, and reasonably fast, and to understand in aggregate which pages are useful. We use a small number of cookies and similar local-storage keys that are necessary for the site to function, such as keeping you signed in. We do not run advertising trackers and we do not build advertising profiles.

4. How we use information

• To answer your questions and follow up about Learn to Row, membership, and volunteering.
• To run practices, regatta entries, safety procedures, and club communications.
• To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve this website.
• To publish club news, results, and photography about our program.
• To meet legal, insurance, safety, and USRowing or SafeSport obligations.

5. Photography and member albums

Photos and video from practices, regattas, and club events may appear in club communications and on this site. Member photo albums are kept private to club members and are not linked publicly. If you would rather not appear in publicly posted images, tell us and we will honor that going forward.

6. When we share information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only in these situations:

• Service providers that host this site, deliver our email, or process registrations and payments, acting on our instructions.
• The wider Catawba Yacht Club and its officers, where needed to administer membership and facility access.
• Governing bodies and regattas — USRowing and regatta organizers, when you are entered in an event or need a registered-athlete record.
• Legal and safety reasons — when required by law, or to protect the safety and rights of participants and the club.

7. Third-party sites

We link to outside resources such as USRowing, regatta registration platforms, weather services, partner programs including Charlotte Youth Rowing, and the other Catawba Yacht Club sites. Once you follow a link, that organization's own privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for their handling of your data.

8. How long we keep information

We keep inquiry and interest-list messages only as long as they are useful for following up, and program, waiver, and safety records as long as required for insurance, governing-body, and club-governance purposes. Published news and historical results are part of the club's archive and are generally retained indefinitely.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and access to member and administrative areas is limited to authenticated, authorized people. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold and to limit who can see it.

10. Children and youth rowing

This site is directed to adult masters rowers and is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Junior rowing is run by our partner program, Charlotte Youth Rowing, which handles its own registrations and privacy practices. Where a minor participates in a club activity, a parent or guardian provides the necessary consents and waivers. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Your choices and rights

• Access, correction, deletion — ask us what we hold about you, have it corrected, or request deletion where we are not required to keep it.
• Email — ask to be removed from the interest list or club mailings at any time; essential safety and membership notices may continue while you participate.
• Cookies — your browser can block or clear cookies, though signing in may stop working.
• Images — ask us not to use your likeness in public posts.
